COPS PIN RAP ON BATMAN - 1992 New York Post Newspaper

Here's a random Batman item I came across on eBay awhile back that I thought was pretty cool. Well, "cool" because it's kinda weird, ha ha! This was the actual cover to a NEW YORK POST Newspaper dated Thursday, June 18th, 1992. It was around the time of the '92 BATMAN RETURNS Movie by Tim Burton. In fact, the photo on the cover is of the Actor who played the Caped Crusader, Michael Keaton. But, the story really had nothing to do with him. It was mainly about how a New York State Sheriff Group was urging a boycott on all films made by Time Warner Inc. because they were the media giant also responsible for publishing a rap song by rapper Ice-T titled "COP KILLER". The name of the album was called "Body Count" & they wanted it removed from store shelves. OK, I remember all this mess. It got really blown-up for awhile. Now listen, I'm presenting this story as an unusual piece of Bat-History & I don't want to hear a bunch of bigoted opinions about Rap music, thank you. I just think this vintage newspaper cover is kinda fun.

Glastron 1966 BAT-BOAT: Vintage Newspaper Clippings

Here are 2 very cool pieces of Batman History I discovered lately on the 1966 Batman Message Board. They are both vintage newspaper clippings from the 1960's talking about the Glastron Boat Company & the world famous BAT-BOAT they made for the 1966 Batman TV Show Movie. These are kinda neat to see after all these years, a rare find! ( Sorry, the 1st one is kinda hard to read ).

Hot BAT-BABE Featured in New Army and Air Force Exchange Halloween Costume Sales Flyer

Here's sort of a funny newspaper advertisement sent in by our good buddy Ed. It shows 3 Hot Babes pushing Halloween Costumes, with one of them being Batgirl. It's from this year's 2009 Army and Air Force Exchange (AAFES) Halloween sales flyer. He said he thought it was interesting that, of all the costumes they could have picked, they chose the Bat-Babe as one of the three highlighted. Well, Ed, I do have to agree that she is a Bat-Babe for sure! But that Freddie Kruger "Nightmare on Elm Street" Babe isn't too bad either, ha ha! Thanks for sending it in.

GALEXO HAS BEEN FOUND! ( 1960's Batman Comic Strip History )

OK, Regular Readers of the Bat-Blog might remember a post done in the past where we were trying to find out about a "Batman character" named Galexo. The short version of a long story is that there was once a syndicated Batman comic strip in the 1960's & 1970's but toward the end of it's run the company lost the rights to represent Batman but actually kept the thing going for a little while with a fake superhero named Galexo...yeah, crazy! The other weird thing is that they kept drawing Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson, ha ha! But the deal is that these last few strips only ran in a very small amount of Newspapers & finding out what this character even looked like has been a goal of many Batman Historians. Well, my buddy Steve over at the BOOKSTEVE'S LIBRARY Blog finally found him!! He received an e-mail from a guy named Todd who runs the Barnacle Press ( a blog dedicated to vintage comic strip history ). Todd has an amazing archive of many "lost strips" & was able to find one with Galexo! So, Congrats Steve! WOW! GALEXO has been found!! For further information be sure to visit Steve's post located at this HERE!

1966 TV CATWOMAN & NEW BATMAN MOVIES Desktop Wallpapers

Since today is "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" I thought, this week, I would post 2 backgrounds with something vintage 60's Batman & something that's modern, but looks vintage. Does that make sense? Please let me explain. The 1st Wallpaper is a wonderful glamor-fashion photo of Julie Newmar as Catwoman from the 1966 TV Series. It's the "vintage one". The 2nd Batman Wallpaper was sent in by our good friend Sean Hartter who made this amazing background that totally looks like an old vintage newspaper advertisement for a "Special Screening of 2 Batman Movies", a Double-Feature! The great thing about this graphic is that, if you're familiar with the "look" of these old ads, then it totally fools you for a minute. Then, you realize, "Hey, This is BATMAN BEGINS & THE DARK KNIGHT! They're very recent movies, ha ha!" I wanna thank Sean for the wonderful artwork, it's great! I also wanna say Hi to Julie Newmar & let her know that I'm sincerely sorry I forgot it was her birthday recently ...Happy Birthday Julie! You know I love ya!

Batman History: Who is Galexo? Where is Galexo?

A friend of mine, named Steve, runs a blog that is all about the history of Comic Strips, TV Shows, Books, Cartoons, & Pop Culture History called "Booksteve's Library". He asked me to ask my readers if they are familiar with a "Batman character" named Galexo. In 1966, to capitalize on the popularity of the Batman TV Show, National Periodical Publications ( Later, DC Comics ) teamed up with the Ledger Syndicate to publish a Batman newspaper comic strip. Unfortunately the strip was not that good & even though it lasted until around 1974 many newspapers started to drop it from their list. Now, the thing is, according to Steve's research, at one point Ledger started to think they owned the "Batman character", even after NPP dropped out. During the last year, when they were in only a few small newspapers, they actually stopped featuring Batman & Robin ( but still kept the Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson characters ) and made the main hero a guy called GALEXO! The weird thing is, for people who collect vintage comic strips, none of them have been able to find a decent picture of what this guy even looked like. Was he a Superhero Guy? Was he an alien from another planet? Nobody knows, ha ha! Now, I'm a pretty serious Batman Fan & Historian but I have never heard of this Galexo character until Steve brought it up. So, the focus of this post is to ask all you Bat-Blog Readers out there if you have ever heard of or seen this Galexo person & also, if you have a picture of him! Now, the graphic up above is an example of what the comic strip looked like. ( The weird thing about this example is that the special guest for this strip was Conrad Hilton, the real-life Hotel Guy! The gimmick was that he opened a "Batman Hilton" in Gotham City, ha ha! Man, I totally love that google-style architecture. The building is awesome! ) OK, If you're serious about being curious about this whole thing please visit Steve's site for more info & if you have a pic ( or any info ) about this Galexo character then please contact one of us. Thanks! You can visit Steve's site by clicking HERE!

MEET BATMAN & ROBIN! Vintage 1960's Newspaper Advertisement

My good friend John sent me this Vintage Oklahoma Newspaper Ad ( John & I both live in Oklahoma City ) the other night. This old advertisement announces that the real-life Batman & Robin, The Boy Wonder will appear at the Founder's Fair Department Store. Of course this was Adam West & Burt Ward from the 1966 TV Show! The copy reads, "Dynamic Duo Due Here - TV's famed Batman and Robin will appear at Founder's Fair Sunday at 1 p.m. in a Rolls Royce. They will be there from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m. to pass out rings and autographs for the kids. The store will stay open till 8 p.m. for numerous prizes & drawings." Oh man, this would have been an amazing event to go to as a little kid back then. I bet that those lucky ones that did totally freaked out, ha ha! Thanks John for sending this wonderful piece of Bat-History.

TOP TEN VINTAGE BATMAN TOYS Article At The LOS ANGELES TIMES

WOW! Oh man, I can't really believe this happened! Recently the Bat-Blog was contacted by the Entertainment Editor of The Los Angeles Times to do an article about the TOP TEN VINTAGE BATMAN TOYS! They have a section of their website about cool fanboy stuff called HERO COMPLEX. They cover Sci-Fi, Superhero Movies, Comic Books, etc... Basically, I was told to write an article about the "Top 10 Batman Toys" & they could be my choice: Vintage, the New Merchandise, or maybe both. The fun part was that I knew we had to go VINTAGE! I mean, that's some of the coolest & most valuable memorabilia out there! So, I collected photos & sent those in. I wrote the article & that took a few days. Then... it actually got published, I can't believe it! Please be sure to read it but keep this in mind. Now, I know that I am gonna miss out on few classic Batman toys that other people loved & in advance, I apologize. Getting the list down to just ten was really a lot harder than I thought. But, after checking it out, I think you'll like at least some of the choices, ha ha. So, please be sure to read it by clicking the button down below & also, PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK on your Facebook, Twitter, Blog, or wherever!

First Look at Batman's WEDNESDAY COMIC Newspaper By DC Comics

You might remember awhile back here at the Bat-Blog we announced a new format of comics that DC Comics is undertaking called "Wednesday Comics". Basically it's gonna be like a Large Newspaper with 16 pages, printed on broadsheet-size newsprint, featuring weekly stories by the best comic book creators out there. This example shown here of the "Batman Section" was written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Eduardo Risso. The artwork looks terrific & this whole "newspaper thing" sounds like a very cool concept. Now, DC Comics seems to be kinda vague right now as to the exact release date but keep an eye out because it should be arriving soon. When we get more information we'll let you know so please stay tuned to the Bat-Blog! ( Thanks Brian for sending the link ).
