New DC UNIVERSE ONLINE Statue - The JOKER

Here's a brand-new statue from DC Direct of THE JOKER as he appears in the new DC UNIVERSE ONLINE Video Game. I like that they went with a "classic comic book" version of the character, "The Clown Prince of Crime!" It's based on the artwork of Jim Lee. This statue will be hand-painted, cold-cast in porcelain and measure approximately 7.6" high x 5 1/4" wide x 2 1/5" deep. It will also be a Limited Edition piece. The retail price will be around $ 90.00 & it goes on sale near November 16th, 2011.

New Book - ICONS - The DC Comics and Wildstorm Art of Jim Lee

Here's a very cool comic art book you might consider on your next trip to the bookstore. It's titled "ICONS, The DC Comics and Wildstorm Art of JIM LEE". Basically it's a retrospective of his prolific artistic career. In this volume, Titan Books has completed the almost impossible task of compiling a generous amount of the last twenty years of Jim Lee’s work. Batman fans should totally love it because there is a ton of Bat-Art! There are also a lot of preliminary sketches that have never been seen before. Now, it's important to note that there are 2 different printings of this book. There's the regular edition with 296 pages. It's the one shown with a "Color Cover". Then, there is a "Previews" Special Edition, with the "Pencil Sketch" cover. The previews Edition has 8 additional pages & the variant cover. It's a little harder to find, but you might be able to get one using the link button down below.

BATMAN AND ROBIN Toon Tumbler Glass - DC Comics 75th Anniversary

Here's a brand-new Batman product we recently came across that is totally cool! This is a BATMAN AND ROBIN GLASS made to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics. This was a special promo glass made by Toon Tumblers for the Baltimore Comic Con. The glass features different artwork on both sides that was taken from a few vintage BATMAN comic book covers. One represents the 1940's Golden Age ( Batman # 9 ) & the other is more Modern-Day ( Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder # 9 ). I guess it's also important to note that the artists are Dick Sprang & Jim Lee. I have shown the original covers here for reference. I have always loved this iconic image of "Batman & Robin in The Spotlight"...it's Classic! For more information about this product just click the button down below ( But please keep in mind that if it doesn't show-up in a search that it is sold-out & will be available later ).

DC Comics News - Win an iPad with Jim Lee Sketch

Right now DC Digital Comics is having a sweepstakes where you can win an iPad that the comic book artist Jim Lee has customized. Basically he drew a large sketch of Batman on the back of the tablet. To enter the contest you need to become a member of ComiXology. Which, I think, is free. Now, don't get me started on my issues with the whole "Comic Books Going Digital" thing, ha! But the artwork on this iPad is pretty cool & this would be neat to win. For more details, click HERE!

Ramon's BATMAN and JOKER TATTOO ART Inspired By JIM LEE Artwork

Check out this ultra-cool set of photos sent in by a Bat-Blog Reader named Ramon. He got some BATMAN AND JOKER Tattoo Art done on himself that was totally inspired by the comic book artwork of Jim Lee. It's done in a simple color palette of "just black", which is kinda cool because it looks like an original comic book art sketch. The Joker looks completely insane in this picture, just as he should be, ha! I want to send a special thanks to Ramon for sending us these wonderful photos, thanks man! Also, as usual, I want to extend an invitation to all readers of this site to send us pics of your fresh ink.

Cool BATMAN TATTOO ART Inspired by JIM LEE Comic Book Artwork

Our friend Adrian saw this awesome Batman Tattoo while he was at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con last week & he said the 1st thing he thought of was the Bat-Blog! Oh man, that's incredible! I don't mean for this to sound conceited or anything, but I seem to hear this a lot lately. The fact that when people see some cool Batman thing they instantly think about my blog. Really, it's the greatest compliment in the world, ever! Sorry, I was sort of proud of that & thought I would mention it but I'm not getting a big head about it or anything ( my autograph just went up to 50 bucks, get yours now ). Ha Ha! Alright, back to this great tattoo art! OK the first thing I noticed is this. One, the art is borrowed from some original comic book artwork done by Jim Lee. So that's cool because his work is totally great. Second, I like the simple color palette of just red & black. "Red" being for the blood of the criminal scum that Batman just beat to a pulp, ha! Adrian, thank you so much for taking the time to shoot these pictures. I really appreciate that. If the Bat-Blog is any good at all it's because of awesome contributions by it's readership, I sincerely mean that.

BATMAN MEETS JOKER - Jim Lee and Mark Hamill

I randomly came across this photo the other night & thought it was pretty cool. It shows the famous Comic Book Artist Jim Lee ( Now DC Comics Co-Publisher ) with Actor Mark Hamill, who did the voice for the Joker in the "Batman: The Animated Series" TV Cartoon & the "Batman: Arkham Asylum" video game. Mark Hamill was also in some movie called STAR WARS that I hear was pretty good.

New ALL-STAR BATMAN and ROBIN MINI STATUE

DC Direct just announced a brand-new Batman Statue that will be released early next year. It's the ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN Mini Statue! It was designed by Jim lee & sculpted by Jack Mathews. This full color, hand-painted cold cast porcelain mini statue measures approximately 4.5" high x 5.73" wide x 4.5" deep, is packaged in a 4-color box. What I really love about it is that it's a total homage to the classic 1960's comic book artwork of Carmine Infantino, very cool! Look for it to hit retail around February 16th, 2011. Oh yeah, one last thing, it's gonna cost around 80 bucks.

Awesome BATMAN & SCARECROW Tattoo Art Photos

The Bat-Blog was recently blessed with not one, but two, amazing photos of some really great Batman-themed Tattoo Art. So, in advance, I wanna thank both readers for sending these in. The 1st one is a BATMAN tattoo inspired by the comic book artwork of Jim Lee. It was sent in by our friend Jeff. It's really well done & the "lightning in the sky" background is a nice touch. The next one was sent in by our buddy Sydney. It's really great too & features a fan-favorite villain, Dr. Crane A.K.A. The Scarecrow! This artwork was inspired by original graphic art by Mike Mignola from the collected "Scarecrow Tales" book. WOW! They're both really great bat-tats!! Now, if any other Bat-Blog Fans out there get any ink done then please shoot us a pic!

Photo: BATMAN and CATWOMAN TATTOO Jim Lee Comic Book Art

Every now & then, here at the Bat-Blog, we post photos of Batman-related Tattoo Art. It's sort of a gimmick that this website has become famous for. So, how did it take off? Well, at first I did because I thought it was news worthy & interesting. Then I started to get a ton of requests from people who were thinking about getting Bat-Tats & looking for graphic ideas. Then, other Bat-Blog Fans would start sending in their photos. It just sort of organically grew & became a feature of this site. Now, personally, even though I would probably never get a tattoo ( because of the expense, not because of any social stigma ), I have always thought the art form is really beautiful. Well, maybe I should not have started this post with this history lesson ( I apologize ) but I just had to get that out of my system, ha! The real reason for this story is to share this wonderful photo of an extremely cool BATMAN-CATWOMAN TATTOO that a reader named Natalie just sent us. Serious Fans of the Batman comic books will instantly recognize that the artwork here was originally drawn by Jim Lee. I'm pretty sure it's from the HUSH storyline & it's become sort of an iconic image. This really looks great as a tattoo! The Tattoo Artist did an amazing job on the black lines, shading, highlights, & color. I'm serious, it looks really great. Thanks to Natalie for sharing this photo & if any other Bat-Fans out there get any ink done then please shoot us a photo. Our email button is always at the top right-hand side of this page.

DC UNIVERSE ONLINE STATUES: BATMAN & CATWOMAN Based on the Art of JIM LEE

Well, it looks like DC Direct is going to release a few statues to capitalize on the popularity of it's new multi-player video game titled DC UNIVERSE ONLINE. Now, for people who have not heard of this game it's going to be a lot like "World of Warcraft" where you can become any DC Comics Comic Book Character & then enter the DC Universe ( Batman's Gotham City, Superman's Metropolis, & other famous places ). It's been totally art directed by Jim Lee so you know it will look extremely cool! In fact, he's the artist who designed each statue here: Batman & Catwoman! They are both a hand-painted, cold-cast porcelain figure measuring a little over 7" tall & will be packaged in a 4-color box. The release date is November 17th, 2010 so be sure to keep an eye out for them...MEOW!

BATMAN AND JOKER TATTOO Based on Jim Lee Art

I recently came across this photo on the Internet & knew it HAD to be put on the Bat-Blog! I mean, we're kinda famous for our Batman Tattoo Photos but this one is too cool not to post even if we didn't, ha ha! It belongs to a new friend named Denis who is a HUGE Jim Lee Fan. In fact, this tattoo is totally based on the artwork of Jim Lee. It features both Batman & The Joker. It's extremely well done & I want to thank Denis for allowing us to post it. If any other Bat-Blog Readers have ANY Batman-Related News or photos then please send us an e-mail. Custom Toys: COMIC BOOK BATMAN Mighty Muggs Figures

I recently got a very nice letter from a Batman Fan in the Philippines named Nico. He sent these wonderful photos of 2 Custom Batman Mighty Muggs Figures he customized & painted to look like 2 different versions of the Dark Knight. The 1st one is styled after Jim Lee's artwork & the 2nd one is inspired by Alex Ross. I gotta say that they are both so totally GREAT that it's really hard to choose a favorite! Thank you Nico for sending these in, you did an amazing job on both of them. I think that if you had not told me about the different comic book artist's styles you used that I still would have been able to recognize their influence. Bat-Blog Readers, if you would like to see more of this very talented artist's work then please click HERE!

BATMAN MOVIE POSTER & STATUE Desktop Wallpapers

OK Boys & Girls, It's time again for "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" here at the Bat-Blog, OH YEAH! This week I'm proud to say that the 2 super-awesome Batman backgrounds we're showing here today were totally contributed by Bat-Blog Readers. The 1st one is an original from a graphic artist friend named Sean Hartter. I really love this one because it's so creative. It's a Batman & Joker image made to look like an old vintage 1970's movie poster or, actually, a movie theater lobby card. I like all the great little details, like the vintage 70's Warner Bros logo. This would have been a really great film too what with William S. Burroughs writing it! It also has Christopher Walken as Batman & David Bowie as The Joker...great stuff! The 2nd wallpaper is really great too. It was sent in by The BATFAN, who has been sharing his amazing Batman Art Collection with us recently. The graphic here is an original piece of production art drawn by Jim Lee, the Master! This was his prototype drawing for the "Jim Lee" Batman: Black and White Statue. Since this piece of ceramic art is so popular it's really cool to see the original sketch. Plus, I'm a big fan so it's always a treat to see his work. So, I hope most of you like these & I wanna thank both Hartter & BATFAN for contributing the art here...you guys ROCK!!
