Yesterday we received an e-mail from a loyal Bat-Blog Reader named Dave who wrote, "I went to a new restaurant last Friday. It's called YESTERDAY'S in Bridgeport, Texas, and is basically full of nostalgia. Attached, you'll find a picture that really peaked my interest. There's a sign that says it is original and authentic from 1966, but DO NOT TOUCH. Oh yeah, and the food was great also!" Thanks Dave for both the information & the photo. I checked out the URL you sent & it looks like a really cool place. The 1966 Batmobile Vending Machine Ride is always great to see. I really love those & want one badly! The other memorabilia they have is cool too. ( Click the photo for a larger version ). There's a '66 Life Magazine on the wall with the famous Adam West cover, some Batman Movie Posters ( not sure if those are real ), 2 Batman Pennants, some misc photos, a Red Bat-Phone ( that's funny ), & they even painted a "Bat-Signal Art Mural" on the wall....awesome! I love "Mom & Pop diner-type" places like this. They're usually way better than the corporate chains. I do go to Texas every now & then so next time, if I'm near there, I'm gonna have to make a visit to Yesterday's! ( Thanks Again Dave ). If any readers live near here & are interested please check it out, looks fun. Here's a link button for more info:
Here's an interesting video that TOYSREVIL put up at YouTube that features the recording of Jim Gordon's voice. Basically, it's the phone call you receive from the "ACME Security Systems" website that is a part of the viral marketing by Warner Bros for The Dark Knight Batman movie.
Here's a random photo I found the other night showing artwork by none other than Tim Burton. It shows Batman, Catwoman, & The Penguin like they appeared in his 1992 BATMAN RETURNS movie. I guess besides being a great director, Tim Burton is also a pretty decent artist. The style kinda looks like his Nightmare Before Christmas graphics...cool!
Yesterday, for the heck of it, I went to TOYS-R-US to see if they had any of those Large 1/18th Scale Hot Wheels 1966 Batmobiles on sale. Yes, Like I actually thought I might have a chance ( I'm a sucker )! But, It's been widely reported that TRU is stocking them in their stores. You just gotta beat-out the scalpers who chase the delivery trucks from store to store, ha ha! Anyway, they were not there of course so I took a look around & found a good Clearance Deal! In their "Birthday Party Supply" area they had this Batman Pinata on sale for $4.00. The original retail was $14.99 so I thought that $4.00 was better. Actually I'm glad I bought it. It's basically a HUGE square box covered in shredded streamer-paper with a nice color-litho poster of Batman ( The Batman Cartoon ) on both sides. It's made by Hallmark & is pretty good quality. Last night I hung it in my bedroom, a nice decoration item. Ya gotta think that many years from now most of these will have been destroyed at birthday parties & will be very rare. Anyway, I might go back to TRU because I do want one of those '66 Batmobiles! ( It willll beee mmmmine! ). As a side note I noticed that TRU has an EXCLUSIVE Batmobile Toy. It's the DC Superfriends SHAKE-N-GO car ( made by Fisher Price, a subsidiary of Mattel ) with a strange color-variation, it's blue instead of black. I already have the black version & decided not to get this one right now.
OK, The big buzz is that at the New York Comic Con ( NYCC 2008 ) yesterday Paul Levitz, the President of DC Comics, very secretly premiered the latest DARK KNIGHT BATMAN MOVIE TRAILER!! I'm sure that it will be all over the net illegally ( hint: YouTube ) but I hope they ( DC Comics or Warner Brothers ) put it on the internet like they did the last one, in HD. There's also been some buzz lately with one of the Warner Bros viral-marketing sites where Jim Gordon makes an announcement to "look for something special" very soon...let's hope it's the new trailer. The reports I have read says it will kinda focus on Harvey Dent & Rachel Dawes a lot more than the Joker. Oh yeah, while I'm mentioning the NYCC they also gave out a few JOKER GOON MASKS to some lucky people. The picture up above is what some of them look like. There are more than these 2 but I was kinda lazy, ha ha. I'll have more soon once I find them. These should be flooded on eBay any day now, if not already, so if you want some get them soon! Me, I'm gonna wait till the scalpers have ripped everybody off & then swoop-in later & get them cheap.
A friend just sent me a link to a very funny webcomic that I shamefully & totally forgot about. It's called FULL FRONTAL NERDITY & the characters are all into comic books, video games, DVD movies...ya know, "cool nerd stuff", ha ha! It's really well-drawn & on most days very funny. ( Click on the comic strip up above for a larger, more readable, version ). Here's a link button to check out that webcomic page. But, before you go, remember to BOOKMARK the Bat-Blog!
Hershey's Chocolate Company is doing a major promotional tie-in with The Dark Knight Batman Movie where they are having a contest called "FIND THE BAT SIGNAL AND WIN". As reported here at the Bat-Blog they will be making a special "Dark Knight Batman Candy Bar" that is gonna be the Reese's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups ( Check the Bat-Archives ). There will be posters, counter racks, display stands, all kinds of promo material with Batman all over it. I think the contest is giving away a special motorcycle, not exactly sure yet. They're being kinda secret about it right now but you can visit the Official Hershey's website by clicking the REESE'S BUTTON down below. If for some reason their website doesn't work it's because they're working on it. Come back & try again later. Oh yeah, the news about the contest will appear there on May 15th, 2008.
