RETRO BATMAN BACKGROUNDS - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

Hey Boys and Girls, it's time again for "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"! This is when the BAT-BLOG.COM posts a few BATMAN WALLPAPERS for your viewing pleasure. Please be sure to share them with all your friends!!



Now, the 1st one was made using a high-resolution photo of a Vintage 1940's BATMAN SERIAL Movie Poster. I'm totally loving the "Golden Age" style! The 2nd one was created by a 3-D Computer Artist who was inspired by the 1966 BATMAN TV Show. So, I guess both of these are sort of retro!

Golden Age BATMAN BACKGROUNDS - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

Every Wednesday the Bat-Blog posts a few Batman Wallpapers for your enjoyment. We call it "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday". We have been doing it for about 4 years now so it's sort of a tradition...we hope you like it! This week I thought I would go with a "Golden Age" theme. You know, images that are inspired by the 1940's Batman. The 1st background is the cover artwork for a recent book published by the Penguin Group called "Batman, The Story of The Dark Knight" written & illustrated by Ralph Cosentino. You might recognize this famous pose. It's sort of a re-creation of the "Detective Comics #27" comic book cover, the very 1st appearance of Batman. The interesting thing about Ralph's book is that it is written more in the style of a children's book, but adults would enjoy it too because the art is so cool & it's a fun story. Check it out on your next trip to the book store. Now, the 2nd wallpaper is a Black and White Publicity Photo of Lewis Wilson. He was the movie actor who played both Batman & Bruce Wayne in the 1943 BATMAN Serials. In other words, he was the very 1st "Movie Batman". I love this picture, it's so crazy! If you think about the era it was made the costume was actually pretty nice. Plus, it replicated the comic book look pretty well. OK, I hope you like at least 1 or 2 of these graphics, ha ha! Vintage BATMAN 8mm Film Movie MEMORABILIA Magazine Ad

The other day a friend sent me this photo of an old magazine ad he found. He said, "Hey Tommy, Do you remember those old Monster Magazines from the 60's & 70's? Ya know, the ones that were all black & white inside. Well, I found one with this ad in the back I knew you would like". I said, "Wow! yeah, this is an awesome piece of Bat-History, thanks!" The ad is for those old vintage 8mm film reels you could buy to watch on the wall at home. This set is for the BATMAN SERIAL MOVIES from the 1940's. Now, the thing that makes this pic so cool is take a look at the store display box!! These movies were sold in small boxes & when we find them they're usually there but that special "store counter box" used to display them is extremely super-rare! Now, everybody, please excuse the 2nd photo being kinda blurry but what I did was blow it up to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about...that display box is AWESOME! Thanks Dave for sending the cool photo, I appreciate that!

Wacky Wallpapers Wednesday! BATMAN, ROBIN, & CATWOMAN TOO!

Here at the Bat-Blog we have a deep tradition of posting 2 fresh brand-new Batman Wallpapers every Wednesday! This week I was in a sort-of "Black and White" mood so I created these two for your viewing pleasure. The 1st one is a vector-art graphic of Michelle Pfeiffer as the leather-clad Catwoman ...MEOW! She's my 2nd favorite Catwoman actress after Julie Newmar, from the 1966 TV Show. The next Batman Desktop Background is a vintage publicity photo from the Classic 1949 Batman and Robin Serial Movie. I recently ran a Bat-Poll where people could vote for their favorite Bat-Actor...NOBODY voted for this guy, ha ha! That's kinda sad because this is such a fun series of films to watch. Shame on you guys, shame, Shame!

Vintage 1940's Batman Serial Movie Trailer ( 1943 )

This is the trailer for the 1943 Batman Serial Movie. But it's not the original one shown in the 1940's. It was from the re-release, back in 1966. It was re-released when the TV show was going good on ABC-TV, and movie theaters across the country showed the serial again to cash in on Batman's popularity. It was a very fun serial, and if you ever get the chance to see it you should because it;s a Classic! In fact, here's a link for more information.

BATMAN GRAPHIC ART ILLUSTRATION : Vintage 1940's Batman Movie Serial

Our friend Rob Kelly recently sent us a very cool Catwoman graphic the other day that we posted. He told us he also had a Batman picture somewhere & that he would have to find it to send later. Well, here it is!! Basically it's one of the Batman actors from the 1940's serial movies....cool! The background looks like some xeroxed images of vintage 40's Batman movie posters while the Batman actor's portrait is done in black & white. Now, the neat thing is that the portrait was done using different colored paper. Each individual color was very carefully cut-out with scissors & then pasted down, a very cool graphic effect! PRESS KIT For 1940's BATMAN & ROBIN Movie Serials Showing Vintage Movie Posters

Here's a really great photo ( click on it for the larger, more detailed, version ) of the original 1940's MOVIE PRESS KIT for the Vintage 40's Batman Movie Serials. Basically it was some promotional material sent to movie theaters explaining how to use the movie posters & hype the classic movies. We can't even begin to explain how super-RARE this baby is & we also seriously LOVE the Golden Age graphics!!

Johnny Duncan, The Original 1949 ROBIN THE BOY WONDER from the BATMAN & ROBIN SERIAL MOVIES!!

Today I was really excited to get an e-mail from a BAT-BLOG Reader who had this modern-day picture of Johnny Duncan with one of his Vintage BATMAN AND ROBIN 1949 Serial Movie Posters! Mr. Duncan was the fine actor who played the original Robin The Boy Wonder in the classic 1940's serials. ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1949 BATMAN Serial Movie Poster

In 1949, a follow-up serial to The Batman, Batman and Robin, was released. Robert Lowery played Batman, while Johnny Duncan played Robin. Supporting players included Jane Adams as Vicki Vale and veteran character actor Lyle Talbot as Commissioner Gordon. The plot dealt with the Dynamic Duo facing off against the Wizard, a hooded villain whose identity remains a mystery throughout the serial until the end. The film's budget was even lower than the first one, and as a result, Batman drives a Mercury convertible. However, the acting was regarded as better than the first. In particular, Lowery is regarded as being a much tougher Batman than his predecessor Wilson. These classic Batman Serial Movies have recently been released on DVD & are on sale now at TFAW.
