I love the BATMAN: BLACK AND WHITE Statues and this new one that's just been announced totally cracks me up! This latest statue from DC Direct is designed by Sergio Aragonés with a classic MAD MAGAZINE look! This cold-cast porcelain statue measures approximately 6.5" high x 7.5" wide x 4" deep, is painted in monochromatic tones, features a Bat-logo-shaped base and is packaged in a black and white box. It will retail for about $ 90.00 and goes on sale around January 18th, 2012.
A friend of mine sent me a link the other day to website for an amazing Graphic Artist named Mark Fredrickson. His artwork is extremely cool & I've known about his work for a long time but never knew his name, ha! You see, he created a few of the covers for MAD Magazine when they have done a parody of the Batman films. You might remember seeing the image shown here of Alfred E. Neuman as The Joker ( Heath Ledger version ). Mark also did a lot of the Stock Art ( or Style Guide Art ) used to promote THE DARK KNIGHT Movie Franchise. His images were placed in magazines, advertising, & other media packaging. Anyways, it's all good stuff & if you would like to see more of his work then just click HERE!
This image up above comes from DC Comic's website & shows the extremely cool art direction for a future episode of "Batman: The Brave and The Bold". The main guest for that day will be Bat-Mite & the thing that's gonna happen is that Bat-Mite is going to pop Batman into multiple dimensions where he will be totally different in each one. The photo above shows Batman & Robin in a "Vintage MAD Magazine" type world. In fact, the characters there are called "Batboy & Rubin", ha ha! This episode is also going to have a segment where the Dynamic Duo are in the Vintage Japanese BAT-MANGA World! The art style in the animation will totally look like the graphics drawn by Jiro Kuwata in the 1960's. This image down below is from Chip Kidd's recent BAT-MANGA Book & shows what the art could kind of look like ( we don't have an actual image yet from the TV show ). Now, this episode looks like it's going to be totally great so please be sure to stay tuned to the Bat-Blog because you know we're going to be all over it, ha!

I don't mean for today to be "Wallpaper Backgrounds Day", ha ha, but last night I received some promo material from Warner Bros about their new MAD Animated TV Show on the Cartoon Network. The graphic here was so BIG that I decided to make it a Batman Wallpaper ( Click on it to see it's awesome beauty! ). This image shows Batman in his bedroom waking up because his bat-alarm went off. The whole room is bat-themed & it looks like it will be pretty funny. This is going to be one of the animation skits they have on the next brand-new episode that airs this Monday, September 13th, at 8:30pm, on The Cartoon Network.
Starting August 1st, 2009, the TOONSEUM at The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh will have a special art show titled TOM RICHMOND:The MAD ART OF CARICATURE. Basically, since 2000, Tom has been one of the main artists for Mad magazine. This show will feature tons of his original artwork & the reason I'm posting it here is because there will be some Batman drawings shown too. Plus, I'm a huge fan of comic art & it's my blog, ha ha! But seriously, if you live in the area ( Pennsylvania ) then you should check it out because I bet it's gonna be a real treat to see. The show runs until October 4th. This post is just sort of a hodgepodge of many different photos of Batman-related Magazine Covers from around the world. I think they're kinda interesting to see & I love how the character is popular outside the United States. The first 3 are from Argentina & the surrounding area. Over there they totally went nuts over "The Dark Knight" movie, that's great! The next one is from Asia & they have had a love affair with the popular icon for many decades! I like how they managed to get a sexy picture of Maggie Gyllenhaal in there! The last 2 are from Germany. I especially love the German Mad magazine! I used to read MAD when I was a little kid & it's good to know that children over there are getting their brains twisted too, ha ha!
Right now I am totally addicted to Facebook. Yes, I need help, ha ha! Actually it's pretty cool for communicating with friends & sharing information. Anyway, while surfing there the other day I came across this extremely beautiful piece of original comic book art that was posted by a fan of Sergio Aragones. You might remember Sergio Aragones from the pages of Mad Magazine or maybe you have read his Groo comic books. Personally, I have always loved his artwork. Beside just being a really great artist doing funny drawings I think a part of the appeal to me is just all the fond memories of reading his stuff when I was a very little kid. So, I thought I would post this picture as sort of a tribute to Sergio Aragones.
Here's the latest issue of MAD MAGAZINE with an awesome JOKER parody cover! It shows Alfred E. Neuman as the Heath Ledger version Joker from The Dark Knight Batman movie. "WHY SO STUPID?", that's hilarious! I saw this at evil Walmart the other night & was going to report on it but totally forgot. Then later I got an e-mail from a Bat-Blog Reader who reminded me ( Thanks Paul ). That just proves that if the Bat-Blog is any good at all then it's because of it's readers! Here's a wonderful black & white photo sent in to us from a Bat-Blog Reader named Michael who said he loved this old publicity photo of Chief O'Hara from the 1966 Batman TV Show reading Mad Magazine. I have to agree, it's very cool! The actor's name is Stafford Repp. While watching the show, as a little kid, I always liked his thick Irish accent. Thanks Mike. The photo inspired me to hunt down my old issue of this classic magazine cover. I show a picture of it next to yours & even made a Desktop Wallpaper for you to enjoy...Thanks again.
This is an idea I had for a quick post to showcase a few vintage magazines that featured Batman on the cover. The 1st example is an issue of SCREEN STORIES from 1966. It has a great color photo of the 1960's Batman on the cover! The exploitive copy reads, "BEWARE OF WOMEN"! I have always loved this magazine because it's a great shot of Adam West. OK, it's from the USA & not "foreign" but to readers who live outside the USA it is, ha ha! The 2nd photo comes from our friend Paulo. This is a super-rare Batman #1 foreign comic book published in Brazil! I think the graphics are awesome, especially with the vintage bat-logo. The last one is also foreign & extremely hard-to-find. It's an issue of MAD Magazine published in China...It's in Chinese, isn't that amazing! I would love to have that one. Thank you everybody who sent pix, they're very cool & we want to invite all our other readers to do the same!
Here's a parody ( from Mad Magazine? ) where they took the gritty realistic Frank Miller modern-day "Goddamn Batman" & put him in a story with Batman characters from the 1950's. The Penguin & Robin characters look like they are drawn by Dick Sprang & they have a "Gee, Golly!" kind of attitude, all sweet & innocent. Batman does not! If you think about the irony here it's pretty gosh-darn funny...Gee Golly, or I mean, dammit! ( Depending on your browser you might have to click on the image to read it ). While surfing the net a few weeks ago I found the promotional website for a graphic artist who does alot of illustrations for Mad Magazine. His name is Tom Richmond & his art style is awesome! He reminds me alot of Vintage Mad Artist named Mort Drucker ( Did I spell that right? ). Up above is an example of his art where they did a parody of the BATMAN BEGINS Movie. Then there's also a promo shot of him & it looks like he's a big Batman Fan! At the moment I can't find his URL for a link but will add it to the BAT-BLOG LINKS Page later. For now if ya wanna check out his art just do a Google Search. His page is really well-designed with alot of great artwork & pictures.
