Every Wednesday we celebrate the joy of Batman with 2 Free Batman Desktop background Wallpapers. Most of the time these are created by us & can't be found any where else! We like to call it "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"! They can be used to brighten your PC desktop or use in a MySpace layout. This week we decided to feature some "old school" graphics from the 1966 Batman TV Series & the 1990's Batman: The Animated Series cartoon....enjoy!
Recently the BAT-BLOG had it's One Year Anniversary & we received a ton of e-mails, comments, & kind words from many of you, our loyal readers. We just wanted you to know that we really really appreciated that! Thank You. We also want to thank those of you who showed your support by sending a small donation to our Pay-Pal fund. Wow! We didn't even ask, ha ha. A few people never notice that we accept donations to keep the blog alive ( See the graphic of the "Tip Jar"? Click on that, ha ha ). While surfing the web the other day I came across a blog by Chris Flick. He's a very talented cartoonist, caricaturist, illustrator, & web designer. His work can be found at http://www.csfgraphics.com. As serious Batman Fans we all know about the classic comic book graphic novel BATMAN : YEAR ONE By Frank Miller. Basically it's all about the 1st year that Bruce Wayne was trying to become Batman. The main focus of the story was the development of his relationship with James Gordon & the creation of some of his crime fighting "tools" like the Batmobile, Bat-Belt, Costume, etc...Well, knowing about that book is what makes this cartoon so hilarious! The humor, of course, is taking the "Year One" concept but applying it to a "What if? story" about Batman as a little kid in in the 1st grade.....Ha Ha, Funny!
In the Underground Fashion Worlds of Europe & Japan a lot of young designers are really attaching themselves to the iconic image of Batman. I think, to them, he is an American Icon who represents both adventure & heroism but also has a lot of campy kitsch appeal. Here's one small example. A design company named BAPE ( Bathing Ape ) will release a Batman Hoodie Sweater this year for their new collection. It's done in the classic "Black & Gray colors" of Batman with a Bat-Symbol logo on the chest. The hood even has "bat-ears". Like most of the designer stuff it's extremely cool but priced where poor people like me can't buy it, ha ha. The retail price is around $440.00 US Dollars. But, the sweater also comes with a FREE Designer Toy Action Figure of Batman so that takes a little sting off it. Besides Batman they have also done Superman, Wonder Woman, & The Flash. On MySpace the other day I saw this extremely funny Batman cartoon floating around on a few pages. It's a parody of the famous Art Masterpiece titled "Nighthawks". You know, the Edward Hopper painting that represents existential loneliness in American big-city life. This classic piece of art is an icon & the cartoonist who did the drawing did a great job capturing both the look & feel of the original...and it's funny! I went to the Art Institute of Chicago a few years ago & saw this painting in real life. It was an amazing experience to be so familuar with this image & then to actually stand in front of "the real thing" at the museum. It's hard to describe but it's almost a religious experience.
