I recently saw these 2 pictures at a friend's blog & thought they were so cool I had to "steal them", ha ha! ( Click on the small picture up above for a way larger, more detailed, photo ). The blog I'm talking about is PLAID STALLIONS. At his site he concentrates on old 70's sales catalogs with pictures of vintage toys & wacky clothing. It's a pretty entertaining site with a lot of good memories & funny humor. One of his posts were these JOINTED-GIANT HANG-UPS pictured here. These were simple jointed-figures, printed on stiff poster-board, that were articulated & meant to display on the wall. I seriously love the "Store Display Racks" shown in the top photo. I remember these toys as a kid & as an adult toy collector I have the Superman ( loose, actually hanging in my office ) & the Batman, still in the original package. They also made a Wonder Woman & Spiderman. Something I didn't know, until seeing these photos at Plaid Stallions, is that they made 2 different sizes of each character. A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named Denis, sent us some amazing photos of his custom work. He recently made this "Batqee" Figure with cape & it's awesome!! He lives in France ( Lucky! ) & is a huge Batman Fan. We think this figure is so good it should be production-made. The styling & colors are dead on. I like the "older version" Bat-Belt with the yellow capsules. This figure looks great in black but another version in the classic blue/gray would be really cool too...sort of a "Retro 70's" figure, think Neal Adams here. We wanna thank Denis for sending us these wonderful photos & we want to invite any other Custom Artists to do the same. Denis, you did a really great job on this figure & I know my readers will think the same. Thanks again.
Here's the preliminary sketch by Brian Bolland for the cover to Robin #3. It's kind of neat to see it with the final cover. Looks like he changed his mind on the "camera angle". This picture shows the way a comic book artist was influenced by an Art Masterpiece!! Hee Hee, I saw this at the DC Comics Message Boards & thought it was pretty cool...enjoy.
